Germany's colorful Rhine metropolis is home to a huge LGBT + community and a hub for gays and lesbians from across the region. The gay scene here is diverse and tolerant. This diversity is also reflected in Cologne's varied bar landscape.

Gay Bars in Cologne - Schaafenstraße & Rudolfplatz

Gay-Bars in the Schaafenstraße

Famous and notorious: Schaafenstraße located in the center of the city forms the epicenter of queer bar culture in Cologne. Nowhere else in Cologne you can find so many gay bars and queer locations in one place. In the summer time, the crowds gather here every evening and the atmosphere is like a street party.

Popular Mumu Bar is located in the middle of Schaafenstraße. The likeable bar has been an institution of the Cologne gay scene for years. Mumu is small but fine and impresses with its witty charm and atmosphere. Here you can enjoy great Kölsch and dance to pop and chart music.

Exile is also located here and is one of the LGBT community´s favorites. On Fridays and Saturdays, the bar regularly bursts at the seams when people from Cologne and visitors alike come here to dance and drink plenty beer and tasty cocktails.

Another perfect spot nearby is a bar called Ruhrpott. This charming pub is a perfect choice to have some local beers, cocktails and tasty wines. Locals and visitors alike romp about here on weekends and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. You can just meet nice people and make great new contacts here. A visit here is part of every queer bar evening in Cologne.

Queere Bars & Cafes between Heumarkt and Rudolfplatz

Around Rudolfplatz you will find a huge amount of queer hot spots. Often the area between Heumarkt and Rudolfplatz is therefore also called the gay Bermuda triangle.

For years, the chic Café Rico has been one of the most popular venues for the Cologne gay community. Here you can have breakfast and brunch daily until late in the afternoon. The café also boasts a great outdoor area from which you can watch the hustle and bustle on the streets.

Cheers.
