Berlin - Tobi´s Tips for the most exciting City in the World

Queer Events

Berlin is home to a colorful, loud and multi-faceted LGBT scene. Here you will find something for every taste. One of my favorite queer events is definitely the Mongay movie night at Kino International. The traditional cinema has already been a hot spot back in GDR times and hasn´t lost anything of its charm. Once a week, the famous place shows an exciting film with a LGBT reference. Lesbian love stories and homo dramas can be enjoyed in a great atmosphere on the big screen.

Top Tip: This place is ideal for dates!

Once a year, the already gayest district of the German capital is transformed into a single colorful LGBT party. The Lesbian and Gay Festival takes place around Motzstraße in Schöneberg and attracts visitors from all over the world for a whole weekend in July. I love this spectacle and have never missed it.

Another highlight in my personal calendar is definitely the Berlin Pride Weeks. This funny event lasts a total of three weeks in July and contains a over 200 great and exciting happenings throughout the whole city. The spectrum ranges from music concerts to theater productions, comedy shows and LGBT cinema evenings. The PrideWeeks reach their peak with the fantastic CSD at the end of July.

Sights & Culture

My favorite museum in Berlin is called Schwules Musuem. It opened in 1985 as the first museum in the world dedicated exclusively to LGBT issues. Even today, the museum is a popular attraction and tourist magnet for visitors from all over the globe. Here you can find an exciting permanent exhibition and also changing presentations.

Of course, Berlin also offers many great events and sights outside the exciting gay scene. I love the weekly flea market at Mauerparkt. Every Sunday, the Mauerpark transforms into a huge flea market with countless stalls and colorful booths. Here you will find great antiques, questionable second hand fashion and useless stuff. Especially in summer time, tourists and locals meet here to shop, eat and have fun.
